An industrial control panel is the enclosure and electrical assembly that distributes power, protects equipment, connects field wiring, and houses control components for a machine or process. It may contain a PLC, power supply, circuit protection, contactors, drives, relays, terminals, network equipment, and safety components.
What a panel does
The panel provides a controlled boundary between incoming power, control voltage, field devices, and machine equipment. It organizes connections so the system can be operated, tested, maintained, and documented.
Typical components
- Main disconnect and branch protection
- Power supplies and terminal blocks
- PLC, I/O, communication modules, and network switches
- VFDs, contactors, relays, and motor protection
- Safety relays or safety controllers where required
Why layout matters
Heat, spacing, wire routing, access, labeling, grounding, environmental rating, and future service all affect reliability. A neat appearance is not enough; the panel should make a fault easier to isolate and a replacement safer to perform.
Panel and controls together
The panel design must agree with the PLC I/O map, HMI, field wiring, drives, network, and machine sequence. TechControl provides control panel design and PLC programming for integrated systems.
